I’m regular visitor of Medium ( http://www.medium.com) . I like to read topics of my choice there.
Yesterday, I just filtered all the posts by topic “self” and I observed that one of the frequent sub-topics was “depression”.
There were 100’s of posts talking about how do you overcome depression and be happy in life.
You do this, you do that, concentrate on something else, listen to music etc..
I’m sure there are as no of articles on internet about overruling depression as no of depressed people.
And we still find depressed people ..
Let me be frank : All your suggestions, guidelines of how to be happy in life… doesn’t work at all…
there’s no such thing as “being positive” for them ..
Here’s why :
First of all, all you writers should know one fundamental thing, people aren’t cured by suggestions and if they are, then what they have isn’t a depression.
First and foremost thing about depressed people is that they are happy with what hey have. The depression seems to be a problem, but it’s a problem for you guys, it isn’t problem for them.
They learn to adapt and accept it, that sadness itself is their life and it’s because at the core, that behavior is what makes them depressed.
It doesn’t happen in a day. At first something happens that creates tension, it happens enough no of times to make it permanent, those people accept it and keep swallowing it.
Their mind naturally doesn’t accept that, it tries to be happy but the continuity in that tensed thing causes enough hate about happiness because at one side of their life, they try to accept the situation for good, and at other side, their brain tries to be positive and happy.
It feels a complete stupid thing but go and ask them ..you have the answer !!
The continuity of the same worry, tension makes their brain win over their mind and they forget happiness. They don’t want to change.
You would say, people have been treating depressed ones, but thats a complete lie. Believe me.
Those who feel like they are treated with those suggestions is a temporary exit. It’s them fooling their own brain into believing something which isn’t true. It kicks back. People with depression don’t want to be happy and they are completely okay with that…you need to understand this…
I agree depression can be treated at initial stage where his/her brain still hasn’t won over her mind.
People who are really depressed, they don’t wanna change. They are happy with their depression and it’s not good thing, everyone knows that, but It’s their situation which we don’t understand as we can’t step into their shoes.
So we all need to understand that it’s not our suggestions that would cure depressed ones ( I’m not saying don’t do it, you definitely cure ones who are at initial stage) .
I don’t know how to cure them… but definitely all these articles you write, those aren’t helping at all …
For them, it’s just as simple as reading the title, “How to be happy in life”, “how to deal with negativity “, “How to deal with the depression” and click/scroll next ..without opening it…
